I'm with Lance on episode 2. We talk about medical social work, practice insights, the closing of Hahneman University Hospital and exploring what it means to be a person of color in social work graduate training programs and beyond.
Here's some more info on Lance:
Lance M. Wilson is a Neuroscience Medical Social Worker who works with patients diagnosed with movement disorders, such as Parkinson Disease. Lance works with both, patients and caregivers providing education, assistance navigating healthcare systems, and the continuum of care. Lance also provides emotional support with the understanding that neurological /neurodegenerative disorders can cause destabilization within the patient’s ecological system.
Lance understands that patients may struggle with feeling like they are a burden to their caregivers/family and caregivers can experience and struggle with burnout/caregiver fatigue. Lance has the skill set to assess and facilitate interventions by referring to community/national resources, conducting brief therapy while offering support and guidance throughout the course of the disease.
Lance has professionally worked in the medical and public health field for over 5 years and is often asked to speak on a variety of topics in both academia and the community.
Lance is a Licensed Social Worker in the State of Pennsylvania and also holds a certification in Health Care from the National Association of Social Workers.
Lance holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Science (BS) in Human Services from Lincoln University of PA and a Master’s Degree in Social Service (MSS) in Clinical Social Work from Bryn Mawr College.
